Las Vegas officer struck by vehicle during traffic stop

A Metro motorcycle cop was injured during a traffic stop late Thursday night in the southwest valley, according to the department.

The officer was making a traffic stop just after 11 p.m. on eastbound Tropicana Avenue, near Tenaya Way, when a 2004 Ford Explorer headed east on Tropicana crashed into the rear of the 2010 Harley Davidson police motorcycle.

The motorcycle was flashing its red and blue lights.

The male officer, whose name was not immediately available, was knocked to the ground. He was taken to University Medical Center with minor to moderate injuries, Las Vegas police said.

The driver of the Ford, 22-year-old Jadene Canasa, was cited for “full attention to driving and failing to slow and move to the left on approach to a stopped emergency vehicle displaying flashing lights,” police said.
