Las Vegas Review-Journal going pink Monday

The Las Vegas Review-Journal will proudly print on pink paper Monday to mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

For the third year in a row, the Review-Journal will also offer special reports on breast cancer research, philanthropy, support groups and individuals with breast cancer.

"The Review-Journal stands up for all women in the fight against breast cancer,'' Publisher Bob Brown said of the effort. "Let us eradicate this terrible disease once and for all."

As in years past, local celebrities will help sell the paper valleywide from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Celebrities will include cast members from Jersey Boys, Peepshow, Crazy Girls, Jabbawockeez, Thunder from Down Under and Recycled Percussion; UNLV men's basketball coach Dave Rice; UNLV women's basketball coach Kathy Olivier; and Elvis impersonator Steve Connolly.

Radio hosts from CBS affiliates KXTE-FM, 107.5; KMXB-FM, 94.1; KLUC-FM, 98.5; and KXNT-FM, 100.5, will provide live music and entertainment from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at some locations, including Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf locations near the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus, Town Square Mall, The District and Tivoli Village. Pink papers also will be sold at all regular locations throughout the day.

All single-copy sale proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the American Cancer Society. In each of the past two years the Review-Journal has donated about $20,000 to the two groups.

In addition to the Review-Journal, three other Stephens Media newspapers in Nevada will participate. They are the Mesquite Local News, Pahrump Valley Times and Boulder City Review.
