Las Vegas police, with the help of several federal agencies, arrested a man Thursday in Panama in connection with an August stabbing at a Las Vegas strip mall, Metro announced Saturday.
Sergey Mkhitaryan, 32, was identified by Las Vegas police as a suspect in an Aug. 20 stabbing that killed Avetis Shilgevorkyan, 57, of Las Vegas.
Shilgevorkyan was stabbed about 5:15 p.m. Aug. 20 outside the Shish Kabob House, 6620 W. Flamingo Road, just east of Torrey Pines Road.
Police said Shilgevorkyan and Mkhitaryan had been in a fight that was broken up "moments" before the stabbing. Mkhitaryan returned, a second fight ensued and Shilgevorkyan was stabbed, Metro said.
He was taken to University Medical Center where he died, police said.
Mkhitaryan was arrested Thursday in Panama and taken to Los Angeles, where he awaits extradition to Las Vegas, Metro wrote in a release Saturday.
Metro credited the arrest to help from the FBI criminal apprehension teams in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, the U.S. Marshals Service, the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Border Patrol.
