Man dead in North Las Vegas shooting

A man died after an argument turned into a deadly shooting in North Las Vegas Sunday afternoon, police said.

North Las Vegas police responded to the 5400 block of Jose Ernesto Street, near Camino Al Norte and Ann Road, after a 25-year-old man was shot about 3:30 p.m., officer Aaron Patty said.

The 25-year-old and the 22-year-old suspect, both of whom were armed, got into an argument that escalated, Patty said. At some point, the older man was shot.

The man who was shot was taken to University Medical Center where he died from his wound.

The suspect, who lives in the area, fled after the shooting, but returned to talk to officers and was arrested, Patty said.

One resident, 16-year-0ld Jordan Payne, said the 10 gunshots he heard sounded like a shootout in the suburban neighborhood.

Police are unsure of the relationship between the victim and suspect is still fuzzy, but it is “safe to say it’s not a random act of violence and that they possibly were acquaintances,” Patty said.
