Man faces new charges in fatal moped wreck

Prosecutors have added charges against a man accused of leaving the scene of a southwest valley crash that killed two people on a moped.

Humberto Lespron now faces two counts of reckless driving resulting in substantial bodily harm or death, according to a superseding indictment announced Wednesday.

Lespron is also charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident and one count of destroying evidence in connection with a March 18, 2014 wreck that left Nicholas Monday, 20, and Phillip Le Nguyen, 21, dead.

Police said the two men were on a scooter stopped at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Blue Diamond Road when they were struck by a 2008 Ford pickup.

Prosecutors have said they believe Lespron was drunk at the time of the crash and fled the scene to avoid being charged with DUI.
