Man found dead in crashed car in northwest Las Vegas desert area

A 79-year-old man was found dead inside his car in a desert area of the northwest Las Vegas Valley Monday evening.

A passerby noticed the man, identified by the Clark County coroner as Sigifredo Alarcon Fragoso of Las Vegas, inside a 2011 Nissan Altima on Moccasin Road about one-half mile west of Homestead Road about 6:30 p.m., Las Vegas police said Tuesday. Moccasin Road is a dirt road used to access power lines.

Evidence at the scene indicates the vehicle was traveling west on Moccasin Road through the desert when Fragoso encountered extremely rough terrain and lost control of the vehicle, police said. Both front wheels were damaged and the vehicle became disabled.

It is unclear when the incident occurred and when the Fragoso died.

Fragoso may have suffered from a medical episode. His death will not be counted as a traffic-related fatality until the Clark County coroner determines the cause and manner of death.
