Man in custody after threatening to jump from Las Vegas Trump International

Las Vegas police say a man who was threatening to jump from the Trump International has been taken into custody.

The man was initially asked to leave the 2000 Fashion Show Drive hotel by security about 6:30 p.m. Friday, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Timothy Hatchett said. Instead of leaving, the man climbed up planters and sat on a ledge of the hotel’s seventh-floor pool deck.

Hatchett said the man’s threat of jumping “appears to be over an unpaid bill.”

At approximately 12:35 a.m. Saturday, police sad the man had moved off the ledge but was still in the general area and they were still negotiating with him.

However, at about 1:15 a.m. Lt. Charles Jenkins said the man was taken into custody and he will be taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.

Earlier in the night when the man — in his 20s or 30s — was on the ledge with his legs dangling over, employees and guests were asked to leave the pool deck, where police situated themselves and tried to talk to the man. Medics were on scene as a precaution.

It’s unclear if the man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It was also unclear if he had a history of mental health issues.

Below the scene, officers blocked off some traffic to the Fashion Show mall’s parking garage, where onlookers were starting to gather.
