Man injured in northwest valley assault

A person suffered head injuries in a northwest valley assault Friday afternoon, police said.

The assault happened about 1:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Mallard Street, near the intersection of Jones Boulevard and Smoke Ranch Road, Metro officer Larry Hadfield said.

An officer on the scene reported seven people attacked the victim.

The victim was taken to University Medical Center’s trauma unit, police wrote in a news release.

It was originally reported that the victim was shot, Metro said, but that turned out to be false.
