Man threatening suicide in custody, all roads reopened

The man who threatened to jump from a Las Vegas overpass and closed a portion of Interstate 15 for about an hour is in custody, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

The I-15, at Tropicana Avenue, was shut down when Metro negotiators responded at 7:44 a.m. to a man who threatened to jump from the Tropicana overpass, said Metro spokesman Lt. John Liberty.

NHP tweeted just before 8 a.m. that northbound traffic was being diverted onto Russel Road and that southbound traffic was also expected to be diverted.

Troopers don’t believe the man had any weapons, said NHP Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel.

Tropicana was also closed in both directions, between Dean Martin Drive and Las Vegas Boulevard. All roads were reopened when the man was taken into custody about 8:45 a.m., Liberty said.

Officials from NHP and Metro did not give the man’s name or age.
