Metro officer suffers minor injuries in Tuesday morning crash

A Las Vegas police officer suffered minor injuries and his patrol vehicle has extensive damage after a crash in the central valley Tuesday.

The patrol car and another vehicle collided near Tonopah Drive and Washington Avenue just after 7 a.m., police said.

The patrol car drove through a red light with lights and sirens on, and was struck in the intersection by a Volkswagen Jetta traveling through a green light, police said. After colliding with the patrol car, the Jetta continued over a curb and hit a wall bordering the sidewalk.

Both drivers were taken to the University Medical Center with minor injuries and were released after treatment.
