Mother faces attempted murder charges for throwing kids out window

A Las Vegas woman faces attempted murder charges after police said she threw her children out a second-story window June 12.

Luz Robledo Ibarra has been booked in absentia on two counts each of attempted murder and child abuse with substantial bodily harm.

Police say Ibarra, 34, jumped out of the window after tossing the children.

Ibarra refused psychiatric treatment and stopped taking prescribed antidepressants before the attempted murder-suicide, according to new details from Las Vegas police arrest records.

Ibarra told police that she had never heard voices or thought about hurting herself or her children in the past, but Ibarra received treatment for insomnia, anxiety and being “overwhelmed with responsibilities” in March and April, the report said.

Her doctor told Ibarra she should receive treatment at Harmony Clinic but was told Ibarra would manage the problem on her own. Ibarra was prescribed Zoloft but stopped taking it because she did not like it.

When police arrived the scene, they found Ibarra’s mother, Cirilla Ibarra, holding a 6-month-old baby boy, bloody from a head wound.

Cirilla Ibarra told police she was asleep when the incident occurred but was woken up by the sounds of crying. She went to Luz Ibarra’s bedroom door and found it locked.

According to the police report, Luz Ibarra’s 13-year-old son used a coin to break into the bedroom, which they found empty with the window open. Cirilla Ibarra looked out the window and down and saw her daughter and grandchildren lying on the ground outside.

“What did I do?” Luz Ibarra reportedly repeated as her mother and son got to them. According to the report, Luz Ibarra told her son she did not want to live anymore.

In an interview with police at University Medical Center — where she is still being treated for her injuries — Ibarra said she was hearing voices telling her to throw the children and herself out the window. She said she remembered throwing what she referred to as “the girl” and “the baby,” the report said.

Ibarra’s 2-year-old girl was thrown from the window first. She suffered multiple facial fractures and cuts and exhibited an altered mental state from a concussion.

Ibarra’s 6-month-old son was taken from a crib and thrown out the window, the report said. He suffered a depressed skull fracture, blood hemorrhaging on the brain and two fractures in his lower legs.

The two children were taken to UMC.

Luz Ibarra is still in the hospital being treated for a broken pelvis.
