A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a pickup in the central valley Saturday afternoon, according to Las Vegas police.
The crash happened about 12:40 p.m. at 5240 W. Spring Mountain Road, near Edmond Street, according to Metro Lt. Kendall Bell.
A 1999 Dodge Ram, operated by Scott Englund, 30, was leaving a driveway on the south side of the road at 5111 W. Spring Mountain Road, a Metro press release said. The pickup traveled north “across all east and west lanes” on Spring Mountain Road in an attempt to enter the parking lot at 5150 W. Spring Mountain Road, the release said.
As the pickup entered the right westbound travel lane, a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle struck the Dodge in the front right of the vehicle, the release said. The motorcycle flipped and ejected the driver, who was identified by police only as a 38-year-old man. The motorcyclist slid about 30 feet before hitting the trash receptacle at a bus stop, the release said.
The motorcyclist was taken to University Medical Center where he later died. Englund remained at the scene of the crash, police said.
The Clark County coroner’s office will release the name of the man killed at a later time.
Metro said this was the 30th traffic-related fatality in its jurisdiction in 2016.
