Nevada National Guard to break ground on readiness center

Nevada National Guard officials will break ground today for a new readiness center next to an existing one on Range Road.

The 10:30 a.m. ceremony for the North Las Vegas Readiness Center is open to the public at 6400 Range Road, Las Vegas, next to the existing Floyd Edsall Readiness Center.

The North Las Vegas Readiness Center will be built on a 78-acre site. The 68,420-square-foot facility will include classrooms, conference rooms, an assembly hall, learning center, library and a physical fitness area.

The expansion is needed to accommodate many of the more than 3,000 soldiers of the Nevada Army National Guard. The state also has 1,100 airmen in the Nevada Air National Guard. The ranks have swelled by more than 30 percent in the past eight years.
