New Las Vegas Municipal Court administrator named

The Las Vegas City Council has ratified the appointment of Matthew Fisk as the new administrator of the Las Vegas Municipal Court.

City officials said Wednesday that Fisk is already working with outgoing Court Administrator James Carmany to replace Carmany when he retires effective Jan. 5.

Fisk has held many positions within the court system including interpreter and bailiff, and is a former administrator of the municipal courts in Reno and Carson City.

Las Vegas Municipal Court judges selected Fisk with input from City Manager Betsy Fretwell.

Chief Judge Cynthia Leung said Carmany will be missed when he retires.

The court's six judges handle traffic violations, criminal misdemeanor offenses, municipal code ordinance infractions and civil ordinance actions.

More serious offenses are handled in the state court system.
