Nominations invited for furniture store’s holiday giveaway

Walker Furniture's annual holiday program to provide deserving Las Vegas residents with new home furnishings is underway, the company announced Friday.

The furniture store is seeking nomination letters to find 30 deserving Clark County families and individuals in need who will receive an entire household of new furniture in the business' 22nd annual holiday giveaway.

Letters recommending families should describe the prospective recipients' situations. Past recipients have included four children who were being raised by their grandparents after their mother was shot and killed by their father; a single-parent family of five, with one child having suffered a brain injury and the family sleeping on the floor; and a single working mother of five who couldn't afford beds, chairs or a dining table.

Helping Hands of Vegas Valley is partnering with Walker to identify nominated families displaying the most need. This year, Star Nursery will provide a Christmas tree to each of the 30 families and the Las Vegas Rescue Mission will donate food and toys.

Walker Furniture is accepting letters through Dec. 4 and will announce the winners Dec. 14 at a luncheon. Furniture deliveries will begin Dec. 17.
