Officials find body of man at Lake Mead

Officials today recovered a body in the area of Lake Mead where a 30-year-old Las Vegas man was last seen swimming without a life jacket on Sunday, the National Park Service said.

Divers from the Metropolitan Police Department recovered the body shortly before 11 a.m. The man had disappeared east of Callville Bay in the Virgin Basin of Lake Mead on Sunday.

The identity of the body and the cause of death is pending and will come from the Clark County coroner’s office.

This is the second time in a week a swimmer has gone missing at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Neither swimmer was wearing a life jacket.

The Lake Mead Interagency Communications Center received the 911 call at noon Sunday. Witnesses said that the man was swimming in a small cove with friends when he began struggling, according to officials.

The search, conducted by the National Park Service, Nevada Department of Wildlife and Callville Bay Marina, went on until 4:30 p.m. Sunday and resumed at 6 a.m. today with the help of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue.

The incident is under investigation. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

Officials continue to search for a missing Chicago man last seen Thursday in Boulder Basin of Lake Mead near Sentinel Island. Istvan Tibor Feichtner, 35, wasn’t wearing a life jacket, started to struggle with high waves after jumping into the water, according to a 911 cal.
