One dead, one in critical condition after central valley shooting

A fight between two groups of people escalated to a shooting Thursday night in the central valley, leaving one man dead and another in critical condition, the Metropolitan Police Department said.

Police were first called at 7:13 p.m. to a home about a block northeast of Twin Lakes Elementary School near Rancho and Vegas drives. When officers responded to the 3020 Riverside Drive house, they found two men shot, Metro Lt. Kendall Bell said.

One of the men died on the scene and the other was transported to University Medical Center with life-threatening wounds.

Police believe both men were shot by the same person, but no suspect description or motive was announced Thursday night.

As of 10:30 p.m., homicide detectives were still investigating the scene, Lt. Bell said. The county coroner's office will name the man who died once his family has been notified.
