A 16-year-old man died and another teen was seriously injured after a car accident late Saturday night on North Jones Boulevard, Las Vegas police said.
Witnesses said the two teens were traveling in a white 1994 Honda Civic about 10:45 p.m., southbound in the left lane on Jones Boulevard, between Washington Avenue and U.S. Highway 95. As they approached an unidentified vehicle from behind, the driver of the Honda entered the center two-way left turn lane to pass the vehicle.
Upon re-entering the left southbound lane, the Honda struck the other vehicle on the front left side, causing the Honda to spin out of control, then strike a chain-link fence and concrete wall at Jones and Empire Circle.
The driver and passenger were transported to University Medical Center. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital. The passenger is in serious condition.
The driver of the unidentified vehicle failed to remain at the scene of the collision and is wanted for questioning. The vehicle is possibly an SUV or mini van, according to the report.
This is the 103rd traffic-related fatality in Las Vegas police’s jurisdiction for 2012.
