One man dead in North Las Vegas shooting

One man is dead after a shooting Thursday afternoon in the north valley.

North Las Vegas police were called around 4:30 p.m. to the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive, near East Cheyenne Avenue, where a man had been critically wounded by gunfire, police spokeswoman Ann Cavaricci said.

Police said a confrontation around dusk escalated into a fight that ended in a shooting. The shooting took place in an apartment complex behind the Lucky Club casino, police said.

The victim, identified only as an 18-year-old man, was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died, Cavaricci said.

No arrests have been made in the shooting, she said.

This is the third homicide of the year for North Las Vegas police.

Further details about the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available.
