Pedestrian hurt in central valley hit and run

A pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a car whose driver took off in the central valley Thursday afternoon, Las Vegas police said.

The woman was struck just before 1:30 p.m. and sent to University Medical Center with “serious injuries,” said Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer. It happened on Olive Street, just south of the intersection of Fremont Street and Charleston Boulevard.

Metro supervisor Lt. Bruce Miyama said the woman driving the sedan was going south on Atlantic and veered to the right through a desert lot. The car was driven across Olive Street, where it hit the woman on the sidewalk in the 3400 block of Olive.

Miyama said the pedestrian was thrown into the air and hit the sedan’s windshield. The woman driving the car left the pedestrian in the street and drove off.

Meltzer said police quickly began looking for a Pontiac Bonneville, possibly gold or champagne colored, involved in the hit and run. Meltzer said the Pontiac would have significant windshield damage.

Miyama said the vehicle was found shortly after 3 p.m., but the driver has not been located.

Metro’s traffic accident investigation section is looking into the crime, which Miyama called a felony hit-and-run.
