Pedestrian in critical condition after being hit by truck

A 31-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in the central valley overnight.

Lester Galdamez-Ostorga was crossing the intersection of Decatur and Charleston boulevards outside of a marked crosswalk at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday, when he was struck by a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by Merle Rahl II, Metro wrote in a release.

Galdamez-Ostorga was transported to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he remains in critical condition.

Rahl, 61, failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence, the release said.

Metro's Fatal Detail is investigating the incident.
