Police arrest man linked to sex attacks against prostitutes

Police have made an arrest after linking several sexual assault cases against women, including some prostitutes, who described a similar attacker.

Investigators made an arrest over the weekend following a July 13 report from a woman who told police she was a prostitute and was the victim of a sex crime behind a Macy’s furniture store near Spring Mountain Road and Arville Street. Upon investigation, police said, they found evidence at the scene and security footage that went along with her story.

Investigators realized they had several similar open cases and that the man was similarly described in all of them, police said. They all reported that the man threatened them with a knife and assaulted them after offering to pay for sex.

One person told police that the man said “I will cut you and show you that I am not playing.”

After several interviews and a Facebook page search, which had photos that matched the women’s description of the man’s car, 27-year-old Ixtoc Renteria-Bentancourt was arrested. According to police, his story changed during his interview several times and he said things that pointed to the sex being non-consensual.

Renteria-Bentancourt told police he had targeted five women, and that during the assaults he held up a “spatula” that looked like a knife to threaten them.

Renteria-Bentancourt is being held without bail at Clark County Detention Center. He faces 14 charges including sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon. He has a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.
