Police: Tire failure caused Laughlin car crash that killed 3 people

A single-vehicle crash in Laughlin that killed three people Sunday was caused by tire failure, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Raymond Guzman, 82, and Mary Guzman, 84, both of Los Angeles, were passengers in the rollover on state Route 163 about 1:40 p.m., according to the highway patrol. A second woman, a 77-year-old who also died at the scene, was not identified by the Clark County coroner’s office Monday afternoon.

The driver, an 85-year-old man, was flown to University Medical Center. He is in “stable” condition, but troopers could not detail the extent of his injuries.

All four people were in a 2000 GMC Safari that was heading east. When the left rear tire went out, the GMC spun clockwise, went into a desert area by the highway and overturned, highway patrol said.

This was the 26th fatal crash in Nevada Highway Patrol’s southern command area.
