Severe storms strike Las Vegas Valley, 10,000 residents without power

A flash flood warning has expired for central Clark County.

Earlier tonight, National Weather Service reported rainfall of nearly an inch at a gauge at the Duck Creek area around Paradise Road.

A thunderstorm warning also was issued for central Clark County, which expired at 8 p.m.

A few strong storms also moved through the southeastern portions of the valley, Lake Las Vegas and Boulder City.

As of 8:20 p.m., the storms had left about 10,000 valley residents without power, according to NV Energy spokesman Mark Severts, who said crews were working to resolve the problem.

Holiday festivities around the valley also were affected.

The Las Vegas 51s game against Colorado Springs was scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. but a power outage delayed the start of the game. It was later called off, but the fireworks show went on as scheduled.

The storm delayed racing events at the Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The NASCAR All-American Series Super Late Models race was scheduled, along with other festivities, at the speedway.
