Snow in mountains, rain in the valley expected tonight

The National Weather Service reports a 50 percent chance of rain tonight in the Las Vegas Valley.

Trace amounts of rain were measured in the valley today, with .04 inches in the northwest valley, and .08 inches at Cheyenne Avenve and the Las Vegas Beltway.

Look for a low tonight of 42 degrees, with winds from the west at 10 to 20 mph.

A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Spring Mountains and the Sheep Range. Overnight, snow is forecast above 4,500 feet, continuing into Tuesday morning. The mountains could get 3 to 6 inches below 7,000 feet, and as much as 10 inches in the higher elevations.

Wind gusts as high as 58 mph were measured at Mountain Springs, and drivers dealt with windy conditions on State Route 160 between Las Vegas and Pahrump, according to Clay Morgan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

A wind gust of 54 mph was reported Monday at the Spring Mountain Youth Camp.

A wind advisory for Lake Mead warns of gusts near 40 mph, with sustained winds from 20 to 30 mph until about midnight.

Winds in Bullhead City, Ariz., reached 44 mph today.
