Some Tartan Elementary students kept late because of lockdown

Some students at a North Las Vegas elementary school were kept nearly two hours late after SWAT investigated a “domestic issue” nearby earlier in the day.

Tartan Elementary School, on East Tropical Parkway near North Pecos Road, went on lockdown about 1:30 p.m., said Clark County School District police Lt. Ken Young.

Students who rode the bus were able to leave, said CCSD spokeswoman Melinda Malone, but students who walked home were kept at the school until about 3:10 p.m., when the lockdown was lifted.

The domestic issue, in which someone refused to leave a home near Centennial Parkway and North Palmer Street, began about 10 a.m. and ended peacefully about 2 p.m., according to North Las Vegas police officer Aaron Patty.
