Teenager arrested in North Las Vegas shooting death

A 16-year-old boy was arrested at Mojave High School Thursday afternoon in connection with a Sept. 5 shooting that left a woman dead, North Las Vegas police said Friday afternoon.

During a press conference, Sgt. Chrissie Coon gave additional details about the shooting in which 20-year-old Andrea Lafon died of a gunshot wound to the head following what police described as an argument over a marijuana sale.

Lafon was gunned down when she and a friend were sitting in a car in the 2600 block of Small Mountain Avenue, near Tropical Parkway and Losee Road, last Friday night, police said.

Police said Lafon and her friend were meeting with a group of people, who were on foot, to sell them marijuana. An argument broke out with the teenager and he pulled out a gun and shot Lafon in the head, Coon said.

She died at University Medical Center the following day.

The teenager was booked in a juvenile center and his identity will not be released unless he is charged as an adult, Coon said.

Lafon was not affiliated with a gang, Coon said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to contact police at 702-633-9111 or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 and www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
