Traffic still bottle necked on Flamingo near Strip because of main break

Bottle necked traffic near the Strip is expected to last until late Monday night after a water main break on Flamingo Road.

Westbound Flamingo is down to one lane between Linq Lane and about halfway to Las Vegas Boulevard while crews work to repair the break, the Las Vegas Valley Water District said.

The break happened sometime Sunday night, near The Cromwell boutique hotel and casino parking garage, water district spokesman Damon Hodge said.

Repairs likely won’t be complete for several hours, Hodge said about 4 p.m.

Crews have closed the water valves and dug up the broken line, but they still have to weld the pipe and recharge the pipelines, Hodge said. Each process could take several hours.

About ten customers were affected, Hodge said, including the Cromwell, the Westin and Bally’s. All of them kept water pressure.

Major hotels typically have multiple meters that serve them, Hodge said.
