Two arrested in Pahrump shooting incident

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with a Pahrump shooting targeting a minor who was in a relationship with the man and is the daughter of the woman, the Nye County Sheriff's Office said Saturday.

About 3 p.m. Friday, the sheriff's office responded to a call reporting gunshots in the 2000 block of Irene Street in Pahrump. According to a sheriff's office release, Cody Barns, a 21-year-old Pahrump resident, fired multiple rounds at a vehicle following an argument with a female occupant, a juvenile above the age of 16 who police said was in a relationship with Barns.

Police said Barns pursued the vehicle, which also contained a male occupant, to a house and fired more rounds at the vehicle and the house before leaving. No one was injured in either shooting.

Police said 42-year-old Pahrump resident Kristy Finnegan conspired with Barns to carry out the shooting. Barns was taken into custody in Ventura, California, after Ventura police conducted a "high risk stop" of Barns' vehicle, the release said. Police said he was in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.

Barns was booked into the Ventura County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Nevada, the release said. He faces one charge each of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm into a vehicle, aiming a firearm at a person and child endangerment, according to the release.

Finnegan was taken into custody in Pahrump. She faces one charge each of conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon, attempted kidnapping second degree, conspiracy to commit child endangerment, obstruction, conspiracy to discharge firearm into a car and conspiracy to discharge a firearm where a person may be injured, according to the release.
