Two in critical condition after five-car crash

A five-vehicle crash on northbound U.S. Highway 95 near Las Vegas Boulevard North left two people in critical condition and sent four more to the hospital, Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Jason Buratczuk said.

Around 9 a.m., the driver of a minivan stopped in the far right lane to remove some debris from the road. Another driver in that lane was checking road signs and didn’t see the cars in front of him stop. His truck hit the back of a car and caused a “chain reaction,” Buratczuk said.

The minivan was not damaged and its occupants were unhurt.

The northbound lanes were closed for about three hours Thursday morning, but reopened just before noon.

“The takeaway from this is if there’s debris in the roadway we don’t want you to remove it yourself,” Buratczuk said.

Drivers who spot debris on the highway can dial *NHP and report it to highway patrol so it can be cleared away safely.
