U.S. marshals nab 41 in Vegas in nationwide sweep
Forty-one fugitives were nabbed in the Las Vegas Valley during a recent six-week long roundup, the U.S. Marshals Service announced Thursday.
About half of those arrests made in the valley included those the marshals classified as the “worst of the worst.”
Operation Violence Reduction 7, comprised of federal and local agencies, resulted in over 7,000 arrests nationwide, including 750 gang members, the Marshals Service said in a news release. The fugitives are facing charges including homicide, sexual assault, robbery and narcotics.
Marshals also recovered 10 missing children and confiscated 400 guns and about 150 pounds of drugs, the release said.
The Marshals Service said it prioritized fugitives wanted for murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, robbery, aggravated assault, arson, kidnapping, sexual assault and child molestation.
“Operation VR 7 was not about increasing arrest numbers, but rather an effort to further protect communities by targeting the most dangerous felony fugitives,” Stacia Hylton, director of the U.S. Marshals Service, said in the release. “The approach was quality versus quantity and was strengthened by working with community leaders and local law enforcement to get the worst of the worst fugitives off the street.”
