Victim of fatal Thursday night shooting identified

A man who was killed Thursday night in an east valley shooting has been identified.

He is Javier Ortiz-Hernandez, 34, of Las Vegas, the Clark County coroner's office said.

Las Vegas police responded to the 2200 block of Exeter Drive, near Lake Mead and Hollywood boulevards, about 8:50 p.m. Thursday and found two men with gunshot wounds, according to a news release.

Two people, whom police described only as black males in their late teens to early 20s, were seen running from the area after the shooting.

Metro Lt. Kendall Bell said two men were outside working on a car when another vehicle pulled up and shots were fired from that vehicle.

Ortiz-Hernandez was pronouced dead at the scene, and another man was taken to University Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Bell said.

A third person went to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the news release said.

This is the 90th homicide for Metro in 2015. It remains under investigation.
