Visitor arrested at prison for trying to smuggle in drugs

A woman was arrested during a prison visit on Feb. 21, when officials say she was trying to smuggle in drugs.

Keondre Ridley, 21, had 27 grams of methamphetamine with her when she was arrived at High Desert State Prison, according to the Nevada Corrections Department.

Ridley was visiting Mustafa Kyles, 21, who is serving three to 10 years for robbery and possession of stolen property.

Las Vegas police arrest records say that a prison guard saw Ridley putting something into an open bag of chips: 10 balloons wrapped in plastic.

Ridley told prison staff that she didn’t know exactly what was in the balloons but she was doing what Kyles asked, according to the arrest record.

Ridley was booked into the Clark County Detention Center to face three charges, including attempting to furnish a state prisoner with drugs, conspiracy to furnish a state prisoner with drugs and trafficking controlled substances.

She is being held without bail and is due to appear in court March 8.

In 2015, High Desert State Prison seized more than 85 grams of controlled substances from visitors, according to the department.
