Many people who frequent The District at Green Valley Ranch are passionate about the shopping center’s pedestrian mall.
Several shared their thoughts with the Henderson City Council last week before the council voted to allow vehicular traffic and parking on Village Walk Drive, The District’s main street.
“This is going to be like a Costco parking lot on a Saturday morning,” one man told the council.
Another man said, “It’s kind of ironic that this is on a street called ‘Village Walk.’ ”
And a woman said she didn’t buy Mayor Andy Hafen’s claim that the council’s hands were tied on the matter.
“If it’s written in stone, stones can be overturned,” she said.
Others threatened to take their business to Town Square in Las Vegas.
“If I’ve got to fight cars, I’m going to go where I can find more shops,” one woman said.

When two Clark County School Board members asked to see the $250,000 contract of consultant Ken Turner before extending his term a third year, the others agreed.
But President Carolyn Edwards said she didn’t want this to set a precedent that the board actually see and review every contract in excess of $50,000.
The district wouldn’t release Turner’s proposed contract extension, but the Review-Journal learned from his second-year contract that Turner was receiving a $50,000 relocation payment every year.

White Pine County rancher Hank Vogler is not shy about speaking his mind, especially when it comes to his profession.
In a recent interview, Vogler said he thinks the agriculture industry in America is under “full-frontal attack” from bureaucrats, environmentalists and others. It’s only a matter of time, he said, before we destroy our ability to feed and clothe ourselves, leaving us at the mercy of other world powers.
Already, he said, more than 80 percent of the world’s man-made fabric is made in Asia.
“If we get into a war with China, we’d have to go into battle naked,” Vogler said.
