WestJet flight makes emergency landing at McCarran

A flight on its way to Canada from Las Vegas had to reverse course and make an emergency landing Thursday afternoon due to a fuel leak.

WestJet flight 1709 departed McCarran International Airport at 3:18 p.m. and touched down again at 3:31 p.m. after pilots reported a possible fuel leak, according to McCarran spokeswoman Christine Crews.

The Boeing 737, which was headed to Victoria, British Columbia, had 126 people on board, Crews said. The Clark County Fire Department cleared the alarm at 3:50 p.m.

Crews said that only WestJet representatives would be able to say if there was actually a leak or if the gauges were malfunctioning.
