Wind brings dust advisory, to blow away smoke from fire
May 24, 2012 - 9:01 am
Wind and dust advisories have been issued for the Las Vegas Valley for today.
The National Weather Service issued an advisory for southwest winds at 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. The winds will increase in the morning, peak during the afternoon and gradually diminish around sunset, the advisory says.
The winds prompted the Clark County Department of Air Quality and Environmental Management to issue a dust advisory to residents and companies doing construction.
Airborne dust aggravates respiratory diseases. Children, the elderly and people with respiratory diseases are urged to stay indoors.
There was some good news as the winds cleared out smoke from a fire in Northern Nevada that had been hanging over the valley.
