Woman found dead near east valley elementary school

Las Vegas police responded at 5:47 a.m. to an “unknown trouble” call in the 1200 block of Fairchild Street where a woman was pronounced dead.

A passerby found a woman, possibly in her 20s, in the roadway suffering unknown trauma, said Lt. Ray Steiber of Metro’s homicide unit.

The woman was found near Brookman Elementary School.

Clark County School District police were at the school to retrieve surveillance footage that could help in the investigation of the residential area.

Authorities believe the woman might have been killed elsewhere and dumped in the street.

Homicide investigators said the woman suffered an unknown type of trauma. Detectives were looking for any witnesses who might have seen or heard anything.

The woman’s identity and cause of death will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office once her family has been notified.

This was the 71st homicide investigated by Metro in 2014.
