Woman hospitalized after southeast Las Vegas barricade situation

One woman was taken to a hospital with possible life-threatening injuries after a barricade situation Saturday morning in the southwest valley, Las Vegas police said.

The incident started just after 6:40 a.m. as officers responded to a family disturbance call at 5121 River Glen Drive, Metro Lt. Jeff Goodwin said early Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival, officers located a woman and small child lying on the ground outside a two-story apartment.

A woman was taken to University Medical Center Trauma Center in critical but stable condition, Goodwin said. Officers are unsure if the woman fell or jumped from the second floor, he said.

The juvenile was not injured, Goodwin said. A second juvenile came out of the apartment on her own, he said.

Goodwin said that during the investigation officers learned that a possible suspect was still in the apartment. Officers tried to contact the man several different times, but he refused all contact.

One 26-year-old resident of the apartment complex said she was asked to leave her apartment by police at 7:30 a.m.

“The police woke me up. They banged on my door,” Madison Villeoa, 26, said.

The Metropolitan Police Department SWAT and crisis negotiation teams were also called to the scene.

“After about five hours negotiators were able to successfully negotiate the man coming out of his apartment,” Goodwin said.

The man is currently being interviewed, he said.
