Woman killed by passing car after stopping to help dog

A woman who stopped her car on a busy roadway Wednesday night to help an injured dog was killed after she was struck by a passing car.

Las Vegas police said 57-year-old Valerie Marie Roberts was struck on Boulder Highway near Sun Valley Drive about 10 p.m.

Roberts had parked her Chrysler PT Cruiser in the left lane and was standing in the center lane when she was struck by a 2007 Dodge Charger. She and another person had been aiding an injured dog that had been struck by a car. The PT Cruiser's hazard lights were on, police said.

She died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

The driver of the Charger, 47-year-old Steven Llewelyn, was not injured.

This was the 58th fatal traffic incident in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction this year.
