2 bodies found inside van at Lake Mead

The bodies of a man and woman from Golden Valley, Ariz., were found in a van Sunday at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, park services officials announced Tuesday.

Lake Mead officials received a call just before 5 p.m. reporting that two people were found dead in a minivan by a third party who was passing through Greggs Hideout, east of Temple Basin, on the Arizona side of the lake.

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office and National Park Service park rangers responded and found the bodies in a minivan that was stuck in the dirt on Salt Spring Wash Road within the park, the Park Service wrote in a release Tuesday.

Park Service officials believe the pair died from environmental exposure. Only two bottles of water were found with the bodies and there was no cellphone coverage in the area, the release said.

The identities and causes of deaths for the man and woman will be determined by the Mohave County coroner's office. Their deaths are still under investigation, the release said.
