4 inmates injured in Nevada prison melee
July 25, 2015 - 8:44 pm
Four inmates suffered nonfatal injures when they and six other inmates fought during dinner at High Desert State Prison near Indian Springs on Friday night, prompting guards to skip bird shot rounds at them.
Verbal commands to stop the fighting were ignored by the inmates, the State of Nevada Department of Corrections said in a prepared statement Saturday.
The officer then fired a blank round and commanded those still involved in the altercation to stop.
Three to five inmates continued to fight, until the guard skipped two bird shot rounds, the release said.
The four injured inmates were treated and returned to their cells.
No Corrections Department staff was injured.
