Former Nevada podiatry board exec sentenced
RENO — A former executive director of the Nevada Podiatry Board has been sentenced to five years’ probation after pleading guilty to misappropriating board funds and falsifying financial accounts.
Melissa Marie Heyden, 32, of Reno also was ordered to pay $34,700 in restitution, according to Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto. She could face up to 2½ years in prison if she violates terms of her probation.
Heyden was sentenced Wednesday in Washoe County District Court after pleading guilty in July to one felony misappropriation charge.
Court documents state she told an investigator she needed money for a special needs child and three children related to her husband.
The investigator said Heyden worked a second job at a Game Stop store in Reno while she was on the clock at her state job.
