Inmate serving life sentence for first-degree murder dies in hospital

A Nevada Department of Corrections inmate serving a life sentence for first-degree murder died Tuesday at Carson Tahoe Hospital, officials say.

Corrections medical staff and Carson City fire department responders performed lifesaving measures on 55-year-old Mark Stevens after he collapsed at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, a department release said Wednesday.

Stevens, who was sentenced for life with parole for first-degree murder with a consecutive sentence of life with possibility of parole for use of a deadly weapon, died at the hospital.

He had been incarcerated since February 1988, the release said.
