Man cleared of charge linked to Pahrump theft

Charges have been dropped against a Pahrump man who was wanted by the Nye County sheriff’s office.

Joseph “Joey” Provenza originally faced one count of illegal possession of a firearm by a felon after deputies said they found a firearm in his bedroom while investigating a theft involving juveniles and stolen firearms.

“[Provenza] was able to produce documentation that his previous conviction was dismissed after successful completion of sentencing obligations,” said Nye County sheriff’s spokesman David Boruchowitz said Wednesday.

Since he is not considered a convict by statute, Boruchowitz wrote, probable cause for Provenza’s arrest does not exist.

The sheriff’s office searched Provenza’s home when they learned that Kameron Varden, who lived with Provenza, helped cover up the theft involving the juveniles, the department wrote in a March 15 release.

Deputies are still looking for Varden.
