Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles director to retire

CARSON CITY — Troy Dillard, director of the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles, will retire next month after nearly three decades in state service, Gov. Brian Sandoval announced Tuesday.

Dillard plans to retire Oct. 23.

Sandoval described Dillard as an "exceptional director" and "tremendous public servant."

Dillard began working for the state in 1988 at the Department of Public Safety. In 2004 he transferred to the DMV, where he worked as chief of the compliance enforcement division. He became deputy director in 2011 and director in 2012.

Sandoval said he will name a replacement at a later date.
