Northwestern Arizona man gets life term in girlfriend’s death

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A sentence of life without parole was imposed Tuesday for a Fort Mohave man convicted in the June 2013 beating death of his girlfriend.

Louis Plunkett, 55, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Marilyn Burdick, 62, whose fully clothed body was found floating in her backyard swimming pool.

Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Williams tacked on nearly nine years more prison time for fraud and evidence tampering convictions. Those counts involved an email scheme that convinced Burdick to disinherit family members and place her assets worth more than $200,000 in Plunkett’s care about 18 months before the homicide.

Burdick’s family members and her best friend called Plunkett a despicable monster at sentencing. Plunkett maintained his innocence and pledged an appeal.
