Stepfather drove pickup that killed Kingman boy

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A pickup that ran over and killed a 4-year-old boy in Kingman on Friday was being driven by his stepfather, city police said Saturday.

Kingman police responded about 4 p.m. to the accident that occurred on residential property in the 3900 block of Lomita Avenue.

The boy’s mother and stepfather had backed their pickup to the garage before unloading about 20 bales of hay, according to police Sgt. Dave Reif. He said the boy was told to stay in the garage as the 30 -year-old stepfather pulled the truck forward and backed around the side of the garage to feed some horses.

Reif said the boy, whose name was being withheld, moved to the side of the garage where he was run over as the truck was backing up. He was dead at the scene.

Reif said an investigation is ongoing but that there will be no charges filed in the case.
