Wildfire grows to 4,000 acres in Northern Nevada

CARSON CITY — Firefighters on Tuesday continued to battle a 4,000-acre blaze burning in rugged terrain about 50 miles east of Fallon in Northern Nevada.

The Cold Springs Fire was ignited by lightning Friday and was burning in steep, forested terrain in the Desatoya Mountain Range, according the Bureau of Land Management.

About 265 firefighters on the ground were being supported by aerial operations.

Officials said the fire has burned some sage grouse habitat and is threatening more habitat.

Hunters and outdoor recreation adventurists are being asked to avoid the area, particularly state Route 722, the scenic Carroll Summit Highway between East Gate and Austin.

Fire officials hope to have the fire contained by Saturday.
