Hot, sunny, no rain in sight for Las Vegas Valley
The Las Vegas Valley is heading into another hot and sunny weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Friday’s high reached of 112 degrees — well above average temperatures and the hottest day so far for July, but short of the record of 114 degrees set for the date in 1937.
Due to the extreme heat forecast for the weekend, Clark County opened cooling stations across the valley that will remain open through Monday. The cooling stations were set up in addition to the three summer day shelters that offer homeless residents refuge from the heat until the end of September.
Temperatures will fall a little each day over the weekend and into the beginning of next week, with a high of 111 degrees forecast for Saturday and 110 for Sunday. Monday’s forecast is expected to be 109.
Monsoon moisture will return to Southern Nevada at the start of next week, but won’t head far enough north to bring rain to the valley. Thunderstorms and winds south of Las Vegas could potentially bring some cloud cover during the week, the weather service said.
