Last showers, snowfall of three-part storm system to sweep into the valley Sunday

The last showers and snowfall of a three-part storm system will sweep into the Las Vegas Valley on Sunday, the National Weather Service said.

The third storm, which will stretch into Monday, is “the strongest of the three storms and the deepest plume of moisture to come across southern Nevada this winter season,” meteorologist John Adair said.

The last storm is expected to drop 2 feet of fresh powder, adding to the existing 33 inches of snow in Kyle and Lee canyons from the first two storms. Up to 6 inches of snow could be seen between 4,000 and 5,000 feet and 6 to 15 inches above 6,000 feet in elevation. The snowfall is expected to peak in Kyle and Lee canyons, where the elevation exceeds 8,000 feet.

The snowfall will be paired with a 60 percent chance of showers Sunday, rising to 70 percent into Monday morning. Northeast Clark County and Lincoln County will be on a flood watch starting Sunday night, Adair said; the watch is expected to end sometime Monday.

The last storm will bring strong winds, with gusts up to 40 mph Sunday. A wind advisory will be in effect 8 a.m. Sunday, continuing through Monday afternoon, the Weather Service said.

Overnight lows during the two-day storm should be in the mid-40s. Sunday and Monday should reach a 50-degree high.

The valley will “finally dry out starting Tuesday,” Adair said. “And the rest of the week should be mostly dry.”
